Deprecation feature

Deprecation feature…In this chapter the author writes about how to find SQL features that will be no longer be used in future versions of SQL and how to locate the discontinued features. This is important stuff here especially if you are a developer or a DBA for that matter. So knowing what is being deprecated in future SQL releases and how to find out is necessary so that your code or apps will not suffer. The author goes into several ways to find deprecated items and each one works very well. As it states in the book “The complete list of deprecated features can be found in Book Online and has more than nine pages.” Nine pages!! I don’t know about you but I don’t have a whole lot of time to read through nine pages of features that will no longer be used. It is easier to use one of the examples provided in this chapter to find out. It is also good to be pro-active in the case of, say, your company is deciding to upgrade to SQL ’08 soon. If that is the case, if you are a developer, you are probably already coding in ’08 or coding in parallel with ’05. No matter what your situation, knowing what features that will no longer be there in the future is usually a good thing.

Thank you for reading our blog. Have a great week.
