Tools, tools, tools…

Why every SQL developer needs a Tools database…Having a tools database is a great time-saver. This chapter follows the last one in where we are saving time and help increase productivity. What exactly is a tools database? It is a database where you can store data, procedures and other type of static information that you can use for referencing or use for maybe calculating data. The author has us setup a tools database that has a set of numbers to help with some generating of calendars and also to help with generating dates in the future and dates from the past. There are a couple of exercises that the chapter walks us through which I am sure that if you are following along are trying out. The database does not necessarily need to be named “tools”. I have worked with a similar type of database where it actually kept zip codes for validation purposes. This is a perfect example of how to use a tools database. Whether you are checking zip codes or trying to find out some complex calculations, a tools database can be very useful.

Thanks everyone for reading. Enjoy the rest of your week.
