Build your own index

Build your own index…Chapter 17 goes into how to build your own index using normal tables. This is a great section for the newbie and the experienced DBA. We all know how to create indexes but not using SQL server indexes can involve a little out-of-the-box thinking. What I would I like to write about is the section that I really liked “Keeping the index and the statistics updated”. The author writes a trigger to update the index and statistics. The cool thing about is that he explains each step in the trigger and what it does. This is really good stuff. There is explanation for both SQL ’05 and SQL ’08, well actually the one for ’08 is a shorter script only about 10 lines shorter.  The chapter goes into “Fragments and Lists”, “Using bitmask” (another great section). Get into this chapter and read all about. You won’t be sorry.

Thanks for staying with us and reading along. Have a great and safe weekend.
